The probelm

Fragmented in-store experiences

Retail staff often rely on separate tools to check stock, manage orders and take payments. Moving between the shop floor, tills and payment terminals can interrupt customer interactions and make it harder to complete a sale.

We saw an opportunity to bring these activities onto one mobile device, allowing staff to serve customers wherever they are in the store.

The challenge: How could we demonstrate an end-to-end retail tap to pay experience in just 2–3 weeks, while working within the limitations of the SoftPOS SDK?

My role

I designed the Vault dashboard, connecting an overview of stored credentials with individual card details and editing.

The solution

One app for the in-store journey

The final app brought together five key capabilities:

  • Product discovery: Search, scan and browse products.

  • Checkout: Manage baskets, variants and delivery details.

  • Tap to Pay: Accept payments directly on the device.

  • Transactions and returns: View payment activity and process refunds.

  • Sales insights: Monitor sales performance and top-selling products.

Focus on three real retail scenarios

To show the value beyond taking payments, I built the experience around three scenarios for frontline staff and store managers.

  • Everyday sale: Find products, build a basket and take payment.

  • Save a missed sale: Arrange home delivery when an item isn’t available in-store.

  • Process a return: Find an order and issue a refund with supervisor approval.

Outcome

From concept to working app in 3 weeks

We delivered a working demo for Thrive 2026, giving the team a product to demonstrate during face-to-face merchant conversations.

When a customer comes in to return an online order, frontline staff can handle it directly on the shop floor without sending them to the till.

Help customers on the shop floor, find products available in-store or online, and take payment in one seamless flow.

A hand reaches into a beam of light in a dark setting, creating a dramatic and serene contrast. Perfect for themes of hope or introspection.

Maintain branded experience for merchant’s customers trust

The experience also supported different merchant brands through a shared app structure.
